ARSA established a Scholarship Fund

The Association of Rhodes Scholars in Australia (ARSA) has established a Scholarship Fund for the purpose of bringing an overseas Commonwealth student to Australia to consult with leading scholars in their research area and undertake research in Australia relevant to their thesis project.

The Scholarship will enable the successful applicant to spend a period of between six and twelve months as a visiting postgraduate scholar at an Australian university, between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015, to undertake research towards the fulfilment of the requirements of the research higher degree for which he or she is currently enrolled.

Although the Scholarship holder will be based at one Australian university, he or she will be encouraged to visit other Australian universities to meet with academic staff and postgraduate students who share their interests.

 Temporary Graduate (485) visa

Effective 1 July 2013, the processing of Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa will transfer from General Skilled Migration to Temporary Visas in Brisbane and Adelaide.  There will be minimal impact to clients who have already lodged an application or who will lodge an application in the future.

If you have already lodged an application, you do not have to do anything.  Your new case officer will contact you.

From 23 March 2013, in response to recommendations four and eight of the Strategic Review of the Student Visa Program 2011 (the Knight Review), new post-study work arrangements will be introduced for graduates of an Australian Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree or Doctorate. The post-study work arrangements are being introduced as a new stream of the existing Temporary Skilled Graduate (subclass 485), which will be renamed the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485).

Visa Classes Stopped for Immigration

From 1 January 2013, the department is not accepting any new applications for the following visas:

Skilled – Sponsored (Residence) Visa (Subclass 886)

Skilled – Independent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 885)

Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 487)

If you are interested in the Points Tested skilled migration you must submit an Expression of Interest and receive an invitation in order to lodge a visa application.  SkillSelect is an online service that enables skilled workers and business people interested in migrating to Australia to record their details to be considered for a skilled visa through an Expression of Interest.
